Chickens Anonymous
I have been advocating for backyard chickens for 10 years. Some years ago, I received a number of postcards “from chickens,” that I thought were pretty hilarious. The quotes below are from The Vancouver Island Diet website
“When I first brought up the possibility of permitting homeowners to keep up to four chickens in their back yards, the response was instantaneous. Some people were (and still are) very wary of the whole idea and others are completely supportive and excited. Most people who are concerned about food security and the eating local movement think it is a wonderful idea.
“The other group that is excited is composed of the chickens themselves, if the number of anonymous postcards is to be believed. Since this idea came to light, I have received seven postcards, purportedly from poultry…some female chickens, a Sicilian and presumably Mafia rooster, white supremacist chickens – the Wyandottes, who do not want lower class chickens such as leghorns to be allowed.”
