About Sharon

Sharon Jackson For 6th Term on Council

I have been serving on council since 1996. I had no idea back then that a 15 years later I would be back here, once again asking for your support.

15 years ago I was working for the Cowichan Valley Arts Council and living on Wharncliffe Rd. with my family. I have seen many changes since then, both personally and professionally.

I am now a grandmother of a three year old granddaughter. My concerns about the environment, green house gas emissions, climate chaos and food security stem from a desire to make sure that the lives of my daughter, her partner and their children are not as bleak and hard as they might otherwise be.

To me, being on council means developing partnerships, not only with individuals but with other organizations and levels of government in order to work collaboratively to give us the services and the living environment that will truly make this the best small city in Canada.

How will that come about? It will happen by continuing to do what we have started, by working in a conciliatory manner with our neighbouring areas, by standing up for what we believe is important and by embracing smart growth and an active transportation plan, by trying to create an environment where the tried and true is valued, but the new and the innovative is welcomed.

Being on council also means respecting other people on council, even if we do not share opinions. Council must represent all kinds of people living in our small city. It also means respecting the people who do the work of the city both at city hall and in public works. Without them, our words are just hot air- they are the ones that make our decisions a reality.

If you elect me once again, I promise that I will continue to give you the same honest and outspoken representation that I always have. It will be a privilege to serve you for another term.
